Switching to some 049 oval port heads will up the torque ang hp for a minimal investment. Grab some 049 heads for $300, a used Performer for oval ports for $80, and the gaskets for $40.
WebSep 14, 2006 · A peanut port is a truck head that is not designed to rev over 4000 rpm. They are about half the size of a oval port and is the most useless head known to a bbc. Avoid at all costs. To answer your other question a regular oval port intake will work just half of the port is covered because of how small the ports are. WebTo put it in perspective, a peanut port headed 454 makes very close to 330hp in stock form. Heads alone might be good for another 30hp. (Even that is a stretch) to make the heads work, you would need a cam change, bigger carburetor, different manifold, potentially larger fuel pump, different exhaust, just to see the potential of the heads.

Which brings up the next point: you could mill the 049s for what ever you need.
